Grace Gundrum Promoted to Brown Belt After Dominating Finishers 10

This past Saturday was an epic day for the Finishers family.  For the first time the Finishers Open was scheduled the same day as the Finishers Sub Only pro event and both were held at the same venue, the Park View Inn Conference Center.  The Finishers Open 3 kicked off around 10:30 a.m. and matches ran well into the evening, with Zach trying to make sure that all competitors got as many matches as possible to make the tournament worth their while.  As usual for the Finishers Open, matches were running ahead of schedule and everything went smoothly even with only two mats going at once.  The two mat set up made it easy for teammates to watch their friends’ matches rather than having to run all over due to people competing on different mats at the same time.  The 10th Planet Bethlehem squad showed up in force both to compete and to help out, whether it be refereeing the matches or helping to get competitors weighed and checked in.  The crew as a whole did a great job during the day and then transitioned to a single, larger mat to set up for the pro event.

The Finishers Sub Only 10 started at 7 p.m. and went well past midnight because of how stacked the card was.  There was a 16-man tournament at 185 pounds and a 10-woman tournament at 105 pounds, along with a bunch of superfights as well.  This was the first time that we had a venue with a bar area and there was plenty of room for viewers with actual seating rather than the usual matside seating, making for a much more professional atmosphere.  In the tournament brackets it was a clean sweep for 10th Planet competitors with Alan Sanchez from 10th Planet San Mateo taking the 185 pound title and our own Grace Gundrum taking the 105 pound title.  After defeating all three of her opponents by submission, Grace was awarded her well-deserved brown belt from Zach and JM, which made the crowd go wild.

For full results from the event check out the MyMMANews article here.  You can also check out pictures taken by our teammate Deanna who owns Cherryville Photography here and pictures taken by Giulliana Fonseca Photography here to relive the action from the day.  The full event replay is available on youtube or you can check out a replay of just Grace's matches here.  Brandon McCaghren did a quick breakdown of what he calls the ginger snap that Grace used during the tournament as well, which you can check out here. Overall it was a great weekend for the team and we are already hyped for the next event.
